Sinner prevailed 6-2, 1-6, 6-1, 6-4, reaching the US Open semifinals for the first time.
This season, the Italian defeated Medvedev, who won the US Open Championship in 2021 and reached the final last year, in the final of the season’s first “Grand Slam” tournament – the Australian Open Championship – but lost in the quarterfinals of the Wimbledon Championship.
“We know each other really well,” Sinner said after the win. “We knew the game would be tough. The first two sets were strange, when after the “break” the winner confidently closed them.”
Sinner’s opponent in the semifinals will be the British Jack Draper (ATP 25), who defeated Australian Alex de Minor (ATP 10) in the quarterfinals 6-3, 7-5, 6-2, reaching his first career Grand Slam semifinal.
It has already been announced that US tennis players Taylor Fritz (ATP 12) and Francis Tiafoe (ATP 20) will meet in the second semi-final pair.
The fight for a place in the final will take place on Friday.
The last “Grand Slam” tournament of the season will end on September 8 in New York. Last year, in the men’s singles, the winner was Serbian Novak Djokovic, who beat Russian Daliina Medvedev 6-3, 7-6 (7:5), 6-3 in the final.
