(ANSA) – TRIESTE, 05 SEPTEMBER – “Fincantieri intends to collaborate with the Saudi defense system, offering skills and technology to guarantee autonomy and technological independence”.
This was announced today by Fincantieri CEO and General Manager Pierroberto Folgiero speaking at the “Green Shoring Global Initiative” – Navigating Manufacturing Supply Chain Challenges Through Resiliency held in Milan.
For Folgiero this is “a crucial aspect: in the defense sector it is not enough to buy advanced technologies, but it is essential to have control over them. Strategic and technological autonomy, therefore, becomes essential”.
More generally, the CEO focused on the fact that “shipbuilding, in addition to being an integral part of heavy industry, also offers an important vision linked to defense, opening a perspective that extends to geopolitics, a crucial element to consider in the current context”. Therefore, “the ‘green shoring’ initiative is part of a world that is in turmoil. The current situation, sooner or later, will have to cool down but it is likely that the world will emerge divided into distinct blocks. This will be the new normal, a reality in which geopolitical laws will have a dominant influence”. In this context, “when we talk about collaborations between Europe and Saudi Arabia, we cannot, therefore, ignore the geopolitical element”. (ANSA).
