Germany continues to fight for medals at the Paralympics. There was a great success in the shooting competition. It is the seventh German gold medal.
Sports shooter Natascha Hiltrop is the first German participant to win her second gold medal at the Paralympics in Paris. After her triumph in the three-position competition with the small bore rifle, the 32-year-old also won the open SH1 starting class over 50 meters prone. This is Hiltrop’s third victory at the Summer Games, after she had already been successful with the air rifle in Tokyo.
Hiltrop achieved a Paralympic record of 250.2 points in the final in Chateauroux. Her lead over her closest rival, Anna Benson from Sweden, was 1.4 points. The partially paralyzed shooter won the seventh gold for the German team.
Hiltrop single-handedly led Germany to the best medal haul for German shooters since the 1992 Summer Games in Barcelona, when the German team won five gold medals and a total of ten medals.
In the morning’s qualification, Hiltrop took second place with 626.3 rings and confidently moved into the final of the best eight participants a few hours later. Cliff Junker, on the other hand, was eliminated in 34th place with 608.1 rings.
Long jumper Nele Moos also surprisingly won a medal. The 22-year-old from Duisburg, who is paralyzed on the right side of her body, not only achieved a personal best with her last attempt at the Stade de France of 5.13 meters, but also won a medal.
