New album ‘House of Tricky: Watch Out’ comes back
A showcase was held in Mapo-gu, Seoul on the afternoon of the 5th.
Presenting a sophisticated worldview and splendid performances
“I want to stand on the Coachella stage… ATEEZ’s stage is stimulating”
The group Psychers is a 5th generation idol group that is gaining attention for their unique worldview. Just like their team name, which includes the letter ‘x’, meaning ‘infinite potential’, and the word ‘hiker’, meaning traveler, they are creating their own coordinates and creating a new path. Their ambition is to recklessly move forward and face the problem head-on, even if the direction is wrong.
At the showcase to commemorate the release of their fourth mini-album ‘HOUSE OF TRICKY: WATCH OUT’ held at Shinhan Card SOL Pay Square Live Hall in Mapo-gu, Seoul on the 5th, CYCUS said, “This comeback is excitement itself. We will show you a more mature side of ourselves.”
‘House of Tricky: Watch Out’ is Psychers’ first album in six months since ‘House of Tricky: Trial and Error’ released in March. It contains Psychers’ worldview and musical growth that has become even stronger than the previous work.
The album contains a total of six tracks, including the title track “WITCH,” “WATCH OUT,” “BACK OFF,” “Bittersweet,” “Sandcastle,” and “Hang Around.” It focuses on the journey of finding one’s own path out of a deep labyrinth.
The title song ‘Location’ is a 6/8 rhythm trap genre, expressing a mysterious ball that unfolds in a fantasy land. Producer Eden worked on it, and Minjae, Sumin, and Yechan are listed in the credits. Hunter introduced it, saying, “There are times when everyone faces the world that confines them and the gaze of others that oppresses them, but it contains the courage to find one’s own path and overcome it head-on.”
The performance, which has become even more intense, is the point to watch for in this album. Se-eun said, “It is the most difficult performance I’ve ever done,” and “I thought about how I could do it well and how I could make it a performance unique to Psychus, and I overcame my own limitations and confronted it head-on.”
Minjae said, “I wanted to make it feel like I was watching a short film called ‘Psychers'” and “I tried to pay attention to the flow of the story and the acting from beginning to end, and I felt that even though the members had never tried acting before, they were able to immerse themselves so deeply.”
Psychers is a 10-member boy group that debuted in March of last year. They became known as KQ Fellaz 2 through KQ Entertainment’s new talent development program. Before their debut, they performed as the opening act for ATEEZ’s American tour, building a solid foundation from the basics.
In particular, the title song ‘Dokkaebi House’ from their first mini album ‘HOUSE OF TRICKY: Doorbell Ringing’, which was first revealed at their pre-debut concert, is evaluated as a song that confirmed Psychers’ potential. The album also achieved the feat of entering the US ‘Billboard 200’ chart at 75th place in just 12 days after its release.
Their skills and stage manners, which were not expected of a rookie, immediately led to favorable reviews from the global market. Riding this momentum, Psychers went on a world tour just 6 months after their debut, garnering attention from K-pop fans around the world.
When asked if they felt pressured by the success and favorable reviews they received right after their debut, the members said, “It motivates us.” Yechan said, “We were honored to enter the Billboard 200 twice, but we felt pressured, so we thought we should work harder among the members,” and “I think it helped us improve our skills faster.” Sumin said, “We were really happy when we entered the Billboard 200, and it definitely motivated us, so we felt pressured to enter the next album as well, but that also gave us the strength to work harder to come out with an even better album.”
Regarding the fact that they are loved by global K-pop fans, they said it was because of the charm of the music and performance. “I still vividly remember the fans singing along to the entire song from beginning to end, even though they spoke different languages. Seeing that, I thought that Psychers’ music had a great appeal to many people.” (Yechan)
Psychers’ next goal is the Coachella stage. ATEEZ, the first K-pop boy group to perform on the Coachella stage, was a stimulus. Minjae said, “I was so stimulated and inspired that I watched ATEEZ seniors’ Coachella stage in real time.” He added, “Psychers will also make our name known through our 4th mini album promotions and definitely perform on a big stage like Coachella.”
Psychers’ 4th mini album will be released through various music sites at 1 PM (Korean time) on the 6th.
