After three years of struggle and protests, the Government of Sonora responded to the demands of hundreds of retirees and pensioners of the Hermosillo City Council, granting them a food supplement to their pension. This financial support, which amounts to more than 14 thousand pesos per person per year, will be given as a recognition to the workers who provided their services to the municipality.

During the award ceremony, Governor Alfonso Durazo Montaño, accompanied by Wendy Briceño Zuloaga, head of the Secretariat for Social Development of the State of Sonora (Sedesson), highlighted that this effort aims to improve the quality of life of senior citizens who have already completed their service in the city council.

“This was the first problem we had when I started my government and I am very happy that we have resolved it once and for all. It hurt my soul to see them protest, it hurt my soul, and now that we have a response before you, I feel more relieved than you do,” he said.

The “Delivery of Food Supplements to your Pension” program was implemented as a solution to the cut in food vouchers suffered by retirees and pensioners of the city council at the end of 2021. Through this program, the Government of Sonora will benefit 676 people, of which 658 are beneficiaries and 18 are sub-beneficiaries, including cases of alimony, orphanhood and widowhood. In total, nine million 345 thousand pesos will be allocated for these supports.

Governor Durazo also called on the local deputies present to ensure that the necessary resources are included in the state budget to maintain this benefit in the coming years. This measure is part of the actions of the Government of Sonora to guarantee that retirees and pensioners of the municipality of Hermosillo have access to sufficient resources to lead a dignified life, reducing the economic limitations they face.
