(by Chiara Acampora) (ANSA) – ROME, 06 SEPTEMBER – A sharp pain in the chest, the rush to the hospital and the discharge with the indication to take painkillers. Then, two days later, the new fatal illness for the young Roman actress Francesca Carocci, who died last March at just 28 years old. The family members have filed a complaint to clarify whether there is medical responsibility behind the dramatic event. The suspicion is that the girl had myocarditis, which was not diagnosed and treated with painkillers.
From the advice of the medical examiner appointed by the Rome Public Prosecutor’s Office, Luigi Cipolloni, it would emerge that the results of the tests carried out on the girl required further investigation. In particular, the blood tests with the alteration of specific heart enzymes that indicated a criticality. The Rome Public Prosecutors are now investigating the case: a case for manslaughter has been opened against unknown persons.
It all started on February 28 when Francesca Carocci felt a very strong pain in her chest, near her heart. She also had a fever. In the afternoon she was taken by ambulance to Aurelia Hospital. There she underwent a series of tests. A few hours later the doctors discharged her and gave her a painkiller. Francesca went home but after a couple of days the situation worsened. The girl was sick again. This time her condition was even more serious. A new call was made to 118. The ambulance with sirens blaring raced again to Aurelia Hospital, but on the way the actress had her first heart attack. The medical staff managed to revive her and Francesca Carocci arrived alive at the emergency room. Here, however, she suffered a second illness that proved fatal. The doctors tried for a long time to revive her but there was nothing more that could be done for the twenty-eight year old.
Meanwhile, six months after her death, the Roman hospital, expressing its “deepest condolences” to the actress’s relatives, provides its reconstruction of the facts. Upon access to the emergency room, on February 28, the patient underwent “all the complete and in-depth clinical tests and examinations required for the symptoms presented by the patient”, the hospital emphasizes, ensuring that the tests, “carefully evaluated by the cardiology team of the facility, categorically excluded a diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction”.
As for the “alleged heart attack therapy with painkillers”, the hospital claims that “the same therapy previously taken by the patient at home” was “simply confirmed”. Therapy – Aurelia Hospital emphasizes – clearly not capable of masking the symptoms of a possible heart attack. It is then specified that it was the same health facility, “having previously excluded the diagnosis of heart attack”, that requested the autopsy. “However, Aurelia Hospital – concludes the hospital – was not invited to carry out the autopsy and is not yet aware of the results, even if it can observe from now that the information on some evaluations attributed to the medical examiner appointed by the Prosecutor’s Office are absolutely not correct”.
And the dismay among the friends and colleagues of the young theatre actress is still strong. “You were a great stage partner, a friend that I would have wanted again and again in my life – we read in a post by colleague Luca Bacci – I hope justice is done, which now more than ever, we need”.
