The Minister of Public Works, Romeo Rodríguez, explained that the institution he heads will intervene on 18 slopes located on the road to the port of La Libertad and 25 on the highway to Comalapa, mainly those that represent a high risk for users, thanks to two financings from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the World Bank (WB).
«At this moment we are working with the IDB on a short list of projects. We have given them about 11 projects that we hope will be approved soon. These include mitigation projects such as the one in the Italia District; the gullies in Los Santos, in Soyapango; and Isla 2, in San Salvador, as well as on the highway to Comalapa at kilometer 18.5, where there is a mitigation project. Also included are more than 30 slopes on the road to the port of La Libertad and on the highway to Comalapa,» said the official.
Rodriguez said that he plans to begin work at the end of this month, as they are only waiting for the bank’s no objection to approve the financing.
The amounts to be provided by the two banks are part of the financing to prevent disasters that was activated by the rains of the storm in June this year, which caused dozens of damages to homes and streets.
