The match for the Super Cup started quite nervously and the teams scored the first goal only after 4 minutes of play. Cascada-HC Garliava, who broke through first, led throughout the match. After the first quarter, the lead of the champions was already nine goals 16:7. After the break, “Cascada-HC Garliava” did not slow down and won a convincing victory 35:18.
“It’s a great feeling to debut as a coach and immediately win the Super Cup. As a handball player, I have not won the Lithuanian championship or cup, so the feeling is indescribable, said Deividas Jovaišas, who became the coach of the Cascada-HC Garliava team before the season. – The victory was not easy. But the girls on the pitch followed all the instructions, even more than I wanted. Thanks to them for that. They were very focused and even though there were some mistakes, but the focus led to a confident victory.”
“Although ours is a young team, many players have been playing in the Lithuanian league for three years and cannot make so many mistakes in attack when passing or catching the ball. We made too many mistakes and after them we conceded as many as 15 goals after quick counterattacks by our opponents, said Žalgiris coach Miglius Astrauskas. – Maybe it was a little better in defense, but we could have played better there as well. Before the season, more attention was paid to physical fitness, but such mistakes are still inexcusable. The opponents provoked our mistakes too much, they were smarter, stronger and more confident.”
Mantė Voskresenskaja and sisters Martyna and Altėja Ustilaitė, who scored 8 goals each, played the most productive in the ranks of the winners, Karolina Sparnauskaitė added 5 goals to the victory, Goda Bernackaitė added 4.
Estonian newcomer Inga Bušina scored 5 goals for the “Žalgiris” team, Kamilė Rupeikaitė and Gabrielė Vēgėlytė scored 3 goals each, Agnė Gudlinkytė, Karolina Čekuolytė and Laura Bitinaitė scored 2 goals each.
In the LRF Super Cup match, for the first time in the history of Lithuanian handball club competitions, the referees used video review. Tomas Barysas and Povilas Petrušis, who refereed the match, after watching the video, made the decision to remove Mantė Voskresenskaja from the field in 2 min. due to a throw in the opponent’s goalkeeper’s face.
