Moscow: The Russian invasion of Ukraine continues to backfire in the sports world. The latest move comes after the International Volleyball Federation banned Russia from hosting the 2022 Volleyball World Championships. Russia’s volleyball setback comes after FIFA banned Russia from the World Cup qualifiers and the Women’s Euro Cup.

The federation said in a statement that it was “deeply concerned” about the situation in Ukraine and the safety of its people. The federation said it was not possible for Russia to host the Men’s Volleyball World Cup in the wake of the war against Ukraine. The World Volleyball Championship was to be held in Russia in August-September this year.
