(ANSA) – BUENOS AIRES, 06 SEPTEMBER – Argentina’s Foreign Minister Diana Mondino signed a letter today urging the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) Karim Asad Ahmad Khan to issue “arrest warrants against Venezuelan authorities, including (President) Nicolás Maduro”. The request to the chief prosecutor of the ICC is based on Article 58 of the Rome Statute, which establishes the rules on “arrest warrants or summonses issued by the Pre-Trial Chamber”. Mondino made her request public on her X account at 18:33 Buenos Aires time. Last April, the Buenos Aires justice system reopened a case against Maduro’s government for crimes against humanity based on the so-called “principle of universal jurisdiction” and “extraterritorial jurisdiction”. “Today’s arrest request does not only concern previous human rights violations that are already being investigated, but also the new, very serious incidents that occurred after the elections of July 28. There have been serious incidents that need to be investigated and those responsible condemned,” a source familiar with the case informed the Infobae portal. (ANSA).
