Petr Aven and Mikhail Fridman will leave the board of directors of Alfa-Bank. The Council will be headed by Alfa-Bank President Oleg Sysuev. This was reported in a press release from the financial institution. The day before, Messrs. Aven and Fridman were included in the extended sanctions list of the European Union.

In addition to them, Alexander Galitsky, co-founder and managing partner of Almaz Capital Partners, and Sergey Matsotsky, co-founder of IBS, will leave the board of directors.

Oleg Sysoev has been working at Alfa-Bank since 1999. He currently holds the position of First Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors. At the bank, Mr. Sysoev is involved in the development of the regional network, social projects, and also heads the Alfa-Bank Sustainable Development Committee (ESG).

The day before, on February 28, Petr Aven and Mikhail Fridman fell under EU sanctions. The businessmen said they intended to challenge the restrictions. They are prohibited from entering the EU and using assets that are registered in the EU. Also, the Financial Times, citing sources, reported that Mikhail Fridman, in a closed letter to employees, spoke out against the military operation in Ukraine.

Today, March 1, is the sixth day since the start of the special military operation in Ukraine. Representatives of the Russian and Ukrainian delegations held talks in the Gomel region. The meeting went on for about five hours. The Ukrainian side demanded an immediate ceasefire and the withdrawal of Russian troops, but these conditions were not met.
