The 200 cm tall forward arrived in Belgrade in not the best mood – this summer the basketball player was left behind in the final twelve-man list of the national team.
Not to mention, even without him, the rest of the Lithuanian men’s basketball team did not make it to the Olympic Games – they fell under the feet of Puerto Rican basketball players in the selection.
Opening up to the Serbian media, R. Giedraitis did not hide his disappointment not because he was not on the list of selected basketball players, but because of how he was treated in the national team camp and the communication of coach Kazis Maksvytis.
“I can say frankly, I was very angry. There was no communication during the entire camp. I have been competing in the Euroleague for six to seven years, I am not a child, but I need communication, clarity.
I’m not angry that he (K. Maksvytis) didn’t include me in the top 12, I’m angry that he didn’t explain anything to me, didn’t say anything. I think it wasn’t fair on his part, but things like that happen sometimes. It was a very bad experience,” meridiansport.rs said R. Giedraitis.
The Lithuanian also spoke about the difficult period of Lithuanian basketball.
“The whole of Lithuania was surprised that the national team lost to Puerto Rico. Everyone expected us to get back to the Olympics, and now we’ve missed out for the second time in a row. The prevailing opinion throughout the country is that this is not good.
We players have to do something because we haven’t won any medal for nine years now, it’s really sad. “Basketball is the second religion in Lithuania,” added the basketball player.
In the last EuroLeague season, the Lithuanian scored an average of 10 points, 3.8 rebounds and 9.8 utility points per game.
