“The COMAIP board of directors unanimously adopted an ethical charter covering the preservation of resources, best social practices, as well as the sustainability of operations and respect for the environment,” the Confederation said in a press release.
The said ethical charter thus aims to modernize, professionalize and anchor the action of the members in line with the High Royal Guidelines relating to the Africa-Atlantic axis, specifies the same source.
In this context, the COMAIP Board of Directors unanimously decided to entrust an independent personality with the drafting of a high-level report on the socio-economic impact of their sector at the regional, national and continental level, in order to set a new ambition and a new course.
In addition, the Board of Directors decided to create three committees, namely the Ethics Committee responsible for monitoring and implementing the adopted Charter, the Strategic Committee responsible for supervising the scientific, technical, socio-economic and environmental aspects, and the Committee responsible for external relations which will represent the voice of COMAIP to relevant partners and institutions.
Speaking on this occasion, the President of COMAIP, Mohamed Lamine Hormatollah, affirmed that the Confederation is today laying the foundations of a new ambition which is part of the Vision of HM King Mohammed VI, who underlined in the royal speech of November 6, 2023, the importance of Atlantic Africa.
Recognized at the national level, COMAIP promotes sustainable and regulated fishing, promotes professions in the sector and participates in the responsible management of resources.
This confederation encourages consumers to choose products from responsible practices, respecting the rules of conservation and sustainability.
COMAIP represents 11 industrialists in the fisheries sector based in Dakhla, with a total of 25 RSW trawlers and more than 40 processing units, whose activity creates more than 13,500 direct jobs and 38,600 indirect jobs at the national level.
