A new bookstore has opened in Summerland – and with very special guests. In addition to Oprah Winfrey, Duchess Meghan was also present.
Duchess Meghan made a surprise appearance with talk show host Oprah Winfrey at a bookstore near their mansions in Montecito, California. The two famous women came to the opening of the “Godmothers” bookstore in Summerland to honor the Santa Barbara writing community. The 43-year-old also took the stage to give a speech.
Duchess Meghan wore a sleeveless navy blue tuxedo jumpsuit by Club Monaco for the event, with her hair tied back in a ponytail. Prince Harry’s wife completed the ensemble with a simple pair of diamond earrings.
In a photo shared by author Laura Lynne Jackson on her Instagram story, the Duchess of Sussex can be seen standing on the bookstore’s stage and speaking into a microphone. Jackson captioned the photo, “The most light-filled night of speakers ever…” Also in attendance, the story showed, were author Shaka Senghor, astrologer Jennifer Freed, and the new bookstore’s co-founders Jennifer Rudolph Walsh and Victoria Jackson.
Meghan’s husband Prince Harry was apparently not on site, but was represented by his 2023 memoir “Reserve,” which was displayed under the “Hometown Authors” section. The exhibition also included several titles by other famous local authors, including Meghan’s children’s book “The Bench.” “We celebrate the authors of our hometowns as if they were our heroes, because to us they are,” said Jennifer Rudolph Walsh, as reported by People.
Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan stepped down as working royals of the British royal family in 2020 and moved first to Canada and then to the USA. Since then, they have lived in Montecito – in Oprah Winfrey’s neighborhood. They gave her a TV interview broadcast in March 2021 in which they took the royals to task. They also reported on their experiences behind the palace walls in interviews and a Netflix documentary.
The 43-year-old is currently in the middle of preparations for the launch of her new lifestyle brand “American Riviera Orchard”. This is set to launch at the end of the year. According to “People”, the trademark application states that the lifestyle brand wants to sell a wide range of products – from tableware and kitchen textiles to delicacies such as jellies, jams, marmalades and spreads.
