On the occasion of the visit made from July 12 to 16 to Nouakchott by the president of the AMPCC, Mohamed Boudra, the two parties agreed to coordinate their efforts with a view to implementing their cooperation programs.
Mr. Boudra’s visit to the Mauritanian capital comes in application of the memorandum of understanding on cooperation and partnership, signed on July 16, 2019 between the AMPCC and the association of mayors of Mauritania and relating to the support of local democracy, decentralization, territorial governance and sustainable development in the two countries.
During this visit, Mr. Boudra was received by the Mauritanian Prime Minister, Mohamed Ould Bilal Messaoud, indicates a press release from the AMPCC.
On this occasion, he welcomed the level of cooperation between the AMPCC and the association of mayors of Mauritania, adding that it demonstrates the constant concern of elected officials to ensure the consolidation and strengthening of this cooperation in order to live up to the aspirations of the two Heads of State and the fraternal and historical ties uniting the two peoples.
The two parties also stressed, during these talks, the importance of further promoting cooperation and partnership between Moroccan local authorities and their Mauritanian counterparts and working for their development and strengthening.
Mr. Boudra was also received by the Mauritanian Minister of the Interior and Decentralization, Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug.
This meeting allowed the two officials to review the promising prospects for cooperation between local authorities in the two countries, in light of the desire expressed by both parties in the said cooperation protocol, with a view to strengthening the process of local democracy, decentralization and territorial governance, in addition to the exchange and transfer of experiences and expertise, the same source said.
This meeting was also an opportunity for the Mauritanian minister to express his appreciation of the Moroccan experience in the field of local development and to welcome the importance given by the Mauritanian president to the strengthening and promotion of decentralization.
During this visit, Mr. Bourdra, also president of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), was received by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Mauritanians Abroad, Mr. Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed.
The interview was an opportunity to highlight the role played by local councils in strengthening relations between the two brotherly peoples, through the strengthening of partnership and cooperation between the various decentralized bodies, in accordance with the will and orientations of the two heads of state, HM King Mohammed VI and President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani.
Emphasis was also placed on the major role played by UCLG in promoting cooperation between local and regional authorities at regional, continental and international levels, in the service of issues and challenges related to sustainable development.
The two parties also discussed the role that local and regional authorities in both countries should play in supporting UCLG’s request to obtain observer status within the UN.
Mr. Boudra also had talks with the president of the Union for the Republic (UPR) party, Sidi Mohamed Ould Taleb Amar, members of the office of the association of mayors of Mauritania and the office of the association of mayors of Nouakchott, as well as with the presidents of certain regions, the press release concluded.
