The head of Norway’s intelligence service, Vice Admiral Nils Andreas Stensjones, believes that Russia is more likely than a year ago to sabotage Norway’s infrastructure, such as gas and oil, as Moscow has become bolder in opposing Western support for Ukraine , reported Reuters.
“The degree of risk has changed,” Stensjones said.
“We think that sabotage is more likely, and we see sabotage happening in Europe now, which shows that they (the Russians) have increased the risk in that direction,” the vice admiral added.
Russia dismisses such claims as panic-mongering.
The Russian embassy in Norway did not immediately respond to Reuters’ requests for comment.
Earlier this year, the Norwegian intelligence services came out with an assessment that Russia “may consider it expedient” to carry out sabotage with the main goal – oil facilities, although last year this was considered unlikely, writes BTA.
Norway is the largest supplier of natural gas to Europe and a key exporter of oil, according to Reuters.
