“Considering various variables, including the possibility of a filibuster”
“The government and the ruling party must reveal their forward-looking position on the ruling and opposition party council”
The Democratic Party of Korea announced on the 10th that it aims to pass the local currency law in the National Assembly this week, and at the same time, hinted at the possibility of putting the Kim Gun-hee special prosecutor bill on the agenda for the plenary session. In addition, it demanded an apology from the government again regarding the medical crisis, and urged the government and the ruling party to quickly reveal their forward-looking stance so that the medical community can participate in the ruling and opposition party consultative bodies.
Noh Jong-myeon, the floor spokesperson for the Democratic Party of Korea, said after the floor strategy meeting that day, “We are aiming to pass the local currency law in the National Assembly this week,” and “We are currently reviewing the promotion of additional bills.”
Regarding the Kim Kun-hee Special Prosecutor Act, he said, “It has not been decided which bill to submit,” and “We are also considering the local currency law while taking into account various variables, such as the possibility of a filibuster due to the ruling party’s strong opposition.”
He continued, “In a situation where it is unlikely that the Special Prosecutor Act for Chae Sang-byeong and the Special Prosecutor Act for Kim Gun-hee will be tabled at the same time, urgency will be the criterion for judgment,” and “In the case of the Special Prosecutor Act for Kim Gun-hee, a violation of the election law was added to the newly proposed bill, and since the statute of limitations for this expires in six months, there is a possibility that it will pass before Chuseok.”
However, Roh’s floor spokesperson added, “It has not been confirmed that the plenary session will be held on the 12th, but there will be a Q&A session with the government on that day,” and “Whether the bill can be submitted there is up to the National Assembly Speaker’s judgment, so persuasion efforts are underway.”
Spokesperson Roh also said regarding the medical crisis, “Although there has been an official agreement on the proposal to launch a consultative body between the ruling and opposition parties, the participation of the medical community, which is an important stakeholder, has not yet taken place.” He added, “Our party believes that the medical community’s demands for an apology from the president, holding those involved accountable, and a reexamination of medical school enrollment quotas are the conditions for actually launching a consultative body between the ruling and opposition parties.”
He also urged, “The government and the ruling party should quickly reveal their forward-looking position on this matter.”
