A tornado hit homes in the south east of the Czech Republic, causing an unknown number of deaths and injuries. The first estimates speak of 100-150 injured, but at the Hodonin hospital they say they have hospitalized about 200 people. Interior Minister Jan Hamacek said all relief units available are already in action and others are moving towards the affected region. In addition to the Czech army, rescuers from Austria and Slovakia also rushed to the scene. The tornado and tennis ball-sized hail struck several towns and villages including Hodonin, where a house, a retirement home and the local zoo were destroyed. The tornado also caused power outages and a traffic jam on the important highway connecting Prague with the Slovakian capital Bratislava.
Video footage from the region on social networks showed buildings and cars destroyed, tree stumps felled and several fires. living hell, regional governor Jan Grolich said after visiting the region.
