In September, by the decision of the Executive Committee of the Basketball Federation of Ukraine (FBU), the former coach of Cherkasy “Mavp” and the youth national team A.Slipenchuk and the player of the youth national team A.Pokoenka were disqualified for life. This means that both the specialist and the basketball player will never be able to compete in any tournament held in Ukraine, will not be invited to any teams.
This was reported by the official website of the Ukrainian Basketball Federation.
Both men did not return to Ukraine after this summer’s training camp within the deadline set by the FBU order. It is said that basketball players and coaches could leave the country, which is at war with Russian aggressors, for a period of 30 days.
The Executive Committee of the FBU made such a decision, “taking into account the fact that there is no confirmation of the return to Ukraine and the fact that such actions of the members of the Ukrainian national delegation are unacceptable.”
The decision was taken unanimously. The Executive Committee informed the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine about this.
34-year-old A.Slipenchuk has been the manager of Cherkasy “Mavpy” since January 2023, and also worked with the youth national team of Ukraine.
Last season Mavpy finished 4th in the national championship. Four years ago, A.Slipenchuk helped the Latvian Ainars Bagatskis train the “Kiyv Basket” club.
20-year-old A.Pokoenka played in the Zaporozhye team and in the national youth team.
Due to the war with the aggressor Russia, which has been going on for the third year, in Ukraine, in the conditions of mobilization, there are strict restrictions on crossing the state borders for men.
Athletes are one of those rare groups who are allowed to travel and compete outside the border, but are required to return within a set time limit.
