Sales of electric vehicles in China in August saw a 43.2% increase year-on-year

In August, retail sales of electric vehicles in China were 1.027 million, according to data from the China Automobile Association, Radio China reported.

This represents a growth of 43.2% on an annual basis and by 17% compared to the previous month.

In August, electric vehicle production reached 1.051 million units, representing a 32.6% year-on-year increase and 12.7% from July.

The penetration rate of electric vehicles in the domestic market rose to 53.9%, a significant increase from 37.3% compared to the same period last year.

For the first eight months of 2024, total retail sales of electric vehicles totaled 6.016 million units, representing a 35.3 percent year-over-year increase, the association’s data also showed.

Meanwhile, China exported 99,000 electric vehicles in August, up 23.7% from the same month in 2023. These vehicles accounted for 24% of total auto exports last month. From January to August, the total export of electric cars reached 787,000 units, or a growth of 20.1% on an annual basis.
