Among the Bangladeshi workers who want to go to Italy, whose visa applications are pending, the foreign secretary expressed the hope that it will be resolved soon. Jasim Uddin
The foreign secretary said this while talking to some journalists at his office in the evening after a courtesy meeting with Italian ambassador Antonio Alessandro in Dhaka on Thursday (September 12).
The foreign secretary said that the visa backlog issue was discussed. As the matter is important we have mentioned the area of concern. To solve this problem, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Italy has formed a special task force only for Bangladesh. We may be able to solve this problem very soon. I am working on the document about the outcome of the discussion with the Italian Embassy.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the Italian ambassador has assured to solve the work visa problem in a speedy time.
The ambassador said that the significant number of work visa applications are now at the embassy mainly due to illegal interference by organized criminal networks, continuous attempts to interfere with the work visa system, submission of fake documents as well as unexpected increase.
Both sides hope that the proposed memorandum of understanding between the two governments to facilitate legal employment of skilled workers and prevent irregular immigration will be signed soon.
