PS5 Pro Announcement Sparks Surge in External Disk Drive Sales as Gamers Prepare for Upgrade

by time news

Sales of the PS5 disc drive have surged following Sony’s announcement of the PS5 Pro.

Last Tuesday, Sony officially revealed the PS5 Pro, a more powerful version of the console, but it does not include a disc drive. While fans continue to debate the high price of the PS5 Pro, sales of the external drive have skyrocketed, as pre-orders for the console only begin on September 26, with its release slated for November 7.

Demand has been particularly strong in the United States, with some of the country’s most popular retailers selling out. Some individuals are already trying to sell the external drive on eBay at an inflated price, even though it is available at normal price on PlayStation Direct. Regardless of demand, it is unlikely that a situation similar to the launch of the PlayStation 5 in 2020, where strong demand combined with limited supply artificially inflated the price of the console, will be repeated.

In Portugal, the external drive remains available for purchase on PlayStation Direct, although it is only possible to buy one unit per account.
