BOLZANO. Il coalition committee met this afternoon at the proposal of the Freedom Party “to address the issue that is not new, but has returned to the forefront of the German school system. The government coalition discussed starting from the case of Goethe School of approaches and support measures focused on language training”.

“The attempt to introduce into the Goethe School from Bolzano a class of first graders who don’t know Germanhas provoked many reactions, primarily regarding the right to mother tongue teaching and the guarantee of quality education. In this regard, one of the five coalition partners, the Freiheitlichen, convened the coalition committee to examine the complex issues related to the world of school. In addition to a general exchange of information on the different situations in schools, the committee focused constructively on possible legally sustainable solutions that do justice to the complex school situations, scientific studies, the protection of minorities, and the needs of students”, the note continues.

The largest party in the coalition, the South Tyrolean People’s Partyhas already announced in recent days the creation of a party-level working group with the involvement of experts and all interested parties in the school world.

The results of this working group will subsequently be discussed in more depth with the coalition partners.. Only after that will we proceed to any other reflections that may also include possible further school policy measures in addition to the current government program”, concludes the note.
