68-Year-Old Hunter Fires Warning Shot at German Soldiers During Training Exercise in Austrian Woods

by time news

Because she felt threatened by people in camouflage clothing, a 68-year-old huntress fired a shot from her rifle in a forest near Friesach (District of St. Veit an der Glan) over the weekend.

The reason for the threat turned out to be benign upon closer examination: the individuals were soldiers of the German Bundeswehr conducting an exercise.

The police confirmed on Tuesday in response to an APA inquiry that they had received an online report from the Kleine Zeitung.

Law enforcement officers were called to the forest on Friday around 9:30 PM. The 68-year-old had fired a shot with live ammunition – whether she aimed at the military personnel or shot into the air was not immediately clear and was the subject of investigations. In any case, a provisional weapon ban was imposed on the huntress.

The exercise has been taking place since last week in the district of St. Veit, with soldiers from the hunting command of the Austrian Armed Forces participating along with members of the hunting command of the German Bundeswehr.

Registered with authorities

The exercise has been conducted several times in Carinthia and was also properly reported by the Armed Forces to the district administration of St. Veit, explained an Armed Forces spokesperson according to the media report.
