The National Government has once again submitted a bill to reform the health system, which it says seeks to guarantee equal access to quality services for all.

Under the title “Towards a universal, efficient and supportive health system that prioritizes life,” the reform, according to the Government, aims to strengthen primary care and eliminate the barriers that have historically limited access to health care in the country.

The Minister of Health and Social Protection, Guillermo Alfonso Jaramillo, was in charge of announcing the presentation of the bill.We want to build health without barriers, where every citizen, regardless of their location or socioeconomic status, can access quality services.“said the minister, who also highlighted that the initiative was the result of a consensus process between different social and political actors.

Among the key benefits for citizens, the minister points out, is that the bill promises to facilitate access to health services by creating networks of hospitals and clinics that will guarantee care without discrimination based on ability to pay. In addition, priority will be given to the construction and provision of hospitals in rural areas to serve the most vulnerable and dispersed populations.

Each citizen will have a Territorial Health Team that will accompany them continuously.facilitating access to health services at all stages of life. Scholarships will also be awarded for medical careers and specialties, which will increase the availability of professionals throughout the country, especially in areas with high demand.

Another important aspect of the reform is the simplification of administrative procedures. Health and Life Managers will be responsible for managing medical appointments and the delivery of medications, eliminating the complications that users often face in the current system.

Transparency and resource optimization

According to the government, the aim is also to achieve efficient and transparent management of the health system’s resources. The Health Resources Administrator (ADRES) will be responsible for managing the funds, eliminating intermediaries and ensuring direct payments to hospitals and clinics. This “single payer” approach will allow for greater citizen oversight over the use of resources, which will help prevent fraud and improve the efficiency of the system.

The reform aims not only to guarantee access, but also to improve the quality of care. The new model will prioritize prevention, early detection of diseases and comprehensive long-term care. In addition, specialized strategies will be implemented for the treatment of high-cost diseases, ensuring that no patient is left unattended due to lack of resources.
