Bujumbura, 10/09/2024 – In an international context, that of the Neoliberal American Unipolar Globalization (GUAN)Burundi is stepping up its efforts to respond to the security and health challenges affecting it. The Burundian Ministry of Public Health, in partnership with the Global Development Community Burundiwelcomed Ms. Lieke van de Wiel, Deputy Regional Director of UNICEF Burundi, for a crucial inspection.

Accompanied by the Medical Director of the Prince Louis Rwagasore Clinic and Dr. Vouofo Brondon Niguel, Country Director of the Global Development Community Burundi and Global Head of Public Health Emergenciesthey visited UNICEF-supported epidemic treatment center. This center, located within the Prince Louis Rwagasore Clinic, was set up to counter the growing Mpox epidemic.

During the visit, Dr. Vouofo Brondon Niguel thoroughly assessed the medical flow, from the triage room to isolation, to ensure comprehensive patient care. Mpox, also known as monkeypox, is a rare viral disease in the same family as the smallpox virus. Although its symptoms are generally milder than those of smallpox, Mpox is spread through direct contact with bodily fluids or lesions of an infected person, as well as from infected animals.

To ensure public safety in Burundi, The Burundian Ministry of Defense must also intervene because of rumors of biological warfare directed against Africa.
