A report by a human rights organization has informed that 875 people were killed in the movement across the country in July-August, starting with the quota reform movement and ending with the one-sided demand for Sheikh Hasina’s resignation. Among them, 422 people are BNP activists or supporters claimed by the party’s secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
He made this claim at a press conference at Gulshan BNP Chairperson’s office in the capital on Sunday (September 15).
Mirza Fakhrul said, this movement did not develop suddenly. It is an expression of years of torture, oppression and anger. This is not an isolated incident. BNP’s long uninterrupted cycle. There is no room to minimize the contribution of BNP here.
At that time, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir commented that BNP’s goal was not the success of the movement, but the downfall of dictatorship.
Fakhrul said, behind this victory lies the unpublished history of the pain of many oppressed people, the call of a mother in pain waiting for the return of her missing son, the endless cries of a wife who has lost her husband, the heartbreaking cry of a child for a crippled father, and the silent prayer of a sister for a brother in prison. With all their 16 years of blood, labor and tears, each family harbors anger, rage and unspoken outbursts; Sheikh Hasina’s fight against fascism was ongoing.
BNP Secretary General said, in fact, 422 people were martyred in the 2024 popular uprising, 1,551 martyrs till 2023, 423 missing (all political parties and ordinary people together about 700 people), 6 million accused and 1.5 million cases. These are not only the statistics of BNP’s abandonment, but the reflection of the party’s steady struggle and contribution towards achieving the second independence of Bangladesh.
Dr. was also present at the press conference. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Mirza Abbas, Dr. Abdul Moin Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan, Salauddin Ahmed and other members of the party’s standing committee.
