New Delhi: The rising price of flour in the open market has given sleepless nights to the government. Therefore, the government has once again reduced the stock limit of wheat. On Friday, the Central Consumer Affairs Department reviewed the stock limit of wheat. Now no trader or wholesaler will be able to store more than 2,000 tonnes of wheat. Earlier this limit was 3,000 tonnes.
The limit was imposed for the first time in June
During the fourth week of June this year, the central government had imposed a stock limit on wheat for the first time. The purpose of this step was to prevent hoarding of wheat. The government had set this limit on the storage of wheat for retailers, wholesalers, wheat processors and large chain retailers.
What is the limit now
A senior official of the Central Consumer Affairs said that this has been done to bring stability in the prices of wheat and its products. Also, this step has been taken to prevent wheat hoarding. He said that now a single wholesaler or trader can store a maximum of 2,000 tonnes of wheat. Earlier this limit was 3,000 tonnes. Retailers can keep up to 10 tonnes of wheat in their warehouse as before. Retailers of big chains will now be able to keep only 10 tonnes of wheat at each outlet. Earlier there was a relaxation of keeping up to 3,000 tonnes of wheat in their depots, which has now been reduced to a limit of 10 times the total number of outlets. Wheat processors will now be able to keep only up to 60 percent of the monthly installed capacity of wheat. Earlier this limit was 70 percent.
Every Friday will be revealed
The central government has said that now any seller or processor who will keep stock of wheat will disclose the stock of wheat stored with them every Friday. This information will have to be given on the Wheat stock limit portal prepared by the central government.
Is there a ban on wheat export?
The ministry official says that at present there is no ban on wheat export. The government wants the prices of wheat to remain stable. It is noteworthy that the prices of all essential commodities including flour, wheat and other commodities are increasing in the open market. At present, assembly elections have been announced in some states while they are going to be held in some other states. In such a situation, the government does not want to risk the displeasure of the public.
