New Delhi: Indian cricket team’s star fast bowler Mohammed Shami is planning to return to Team India soon. Shami will play domestic cricket for Bengal in Ranji Trophy and after that he will stake his claim for Team India. After a Bengal Cricket event, Shami said, ‘I definitely want to play for Bengal in the next season. I am hoping to play two to three matches for Bengal in Ranji. This will help me return to international cricket. I am training at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) and would like to play when I am fully fit.’ Although Shami is from Uttar Pradesh, he got a chance to play in the Bengal team for the first time. After making his debut in 2011, Shami played 15 first class and 15 List A matches for Bengal, after which in January 2013 he got a chance to play in India’s ODI team against Pakistan in Delhi.

I was born in UP, Bengal made me: Shami
On being honored for his excellent performance in the World Cup 2023, Shami said, ‘I cannot thank Bengal enough. I was born in a family in UP where there were not many opportunities. That’s why I often say that I was born in UP, but Bengal made me. It is a journey of 22 years and I am deeply grateful to Bengal for bringing me to this point. I can never forget the love and support Bengal has given. I want women’s cricket to progress as well. People should not discriminate and if our families also support them, I will be very happy.’

Along with this, Shami also gave his opinion on the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which is going to start in December. Shami believes that India will have the upper hand in the five-match Test series to be held this year. Shami said, ‘I think India is a strong contender to win this series. In the last Australia tour, we played with a young team in the absence of many senior players, yet we proved that we are the best. I think the next series will be tough, but India will definitely win.’
