The Chuseok special film ‘The Host’ will air on EBS1TV at 1:45 PM on Monday, September 16, 2024. ‘The Host’ is a 2006 Korean film directed by Bong Joon-ho and starring Song Kang-ho, Byun Hee-bong, Park Hae-il, Bae Doo-na, and Ko Ah-sung.
At a Han River convenience store run by a father (Byun Hee-bong) on a peaceful, sunny Han River bank, Kang-du (Song Kang-ho), who was taking a long nap, wakes up with a start at the sound of his father calling him “Dad.”
My daughter Hyunseo (Go Ah-sung), who is now a middle school student, is very angry. It is because of her old cell phone that she is embarrassed to show off, and her uncle (Park Hae-il) who came to the parent-teacher conference smelling of alcohol.
After much thought, Kang-doo takes out a cup of ramen filled with coins he has been secretly saving up and shows it to her. However, Hyun-seo is indifferent and is absorbed in her aunt’s (Bae Doo-na) archery competition at the National Sports Festival that has just started.
A monster appeared there. Kang-du, who went out to deliver squid to the Han River, happened to witness a strange sight among the crowd of people. Something he had never seen before was hanging from the Han River Bridge and moving. People were amazed and took pictures of it with their cellphones and digital cameras.
But that was only for a moment… An unidentified monster climbed up onto the hill and began to trample people without hesitation and bite them indiscriminately. In an instant, the Han River turned into a scene of chaos. Kang-du belatedly ran away with his daughter Hyun-seo in a panic, but as people scattered screaming, he lost sight of Hyun-seo’s hand that he had been holding onto tightly.
At that moment, the monster, as if it had been waiting, snatches Hyunseo away and leisurely disappears into the Han River. We must find Hyunseo, who must be somewhere. The sudden appearance of the monster causes the Han River to be closed off, and the entire city to become paralyzed.
The Kang-du family lost everything overnight, including their home, their livelihood, and their most precious possession, Hyun-seo… With no money or connections, no one will help them, but they set out to find Hyun-seo somewhere in the Han River, which has been declared a danger zone.
