At least one person was injured and five buildings were damaged in the Kyiv region during last night’s Russian air attack, local authorities reported today, quoted by Reuters, BTA reported.
Kyiv Region Governor Ruslan Kravchenko reported that there was no damage to critical infrastructure in the capital region.
Ukrainian air defenses reported on Telegram that they shot down 53 of a total of 56 drones launched by Russia over more than 10 central, northern and southern Ukrainian regions in last night’s Russian attack.
The main target of the attack was the Kyiv region, the Ukrainian Air Defense said in its statement.
Air defense units shot down nearly 20 drones flying towards the capital, the Ukrainian army said.
“Russian attack drones headed towards Kyiv from different directions and flying in groups,” Sergiy Popko, head of the Kyiv regional military administration, said on the Telegram social network. “According to preliminary data, there are no victims or destruction in the capital,” he added.
The full scale of the attack, which kept Kiev on air alert for 3.5 hours, was yet to be determined, he added.
Eyewitnesses quoted by Reuters reported that loud explosions echoed in the city, which sounded like firing from air defense systems.
The air attack was repelled by the aviation, air defense, electronic warfare systems and mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian anti-aircraft forces, Ukrinform said.
So far, there is no comment from Moscow. Russia says its strikes are only targeting infrastructure that is key to Ukraine’s military capabilities.
