With seven votes to four, the General Council of the National Electoral Institute (INE) approved declaring itself unable to comply with the validity of the statutory changes of the PRIwhich allowed the re-election of Alejandro Moreno and Carolina Viggiano.
The General Council is not competent to assess the election process of Alito Morenoso it would correspond to the Upper Chamber of the TEPJF to pronounce on the case already Internal Processes Commission of the tricolor.
“It is not appropriate to make a statement on the constitutional and legal origin of the modifications to the Statutes and the Declaration of Principles, as well as the issuance of the PRI Action Program carried out by the XXIV Ordinary National Assemblyheld on July 7, 2024, since the political party did not comply with the provisions of Article 34 of the General Law of Parties,” the resolution states.
The president of the INE, Guadalupe Taddeisaid that “an interpretation must be made that guarantees the parties’ right to self-determination. The PRI modified its basic documents after the election day had already passed, therefore it is not affected and the legal origin of the reforms must be declared.”
The representative of the PRI, Marcela Guerra, He said that “the Institute has acted in an excessive, biased and out-of-context manner. It has overstepped its bounds and wants to influence the self-determination of the PRI.”
In addition to this, former leaders of the tricolor recognized the INE, to invalidate the re-election of Alejandro Moreno, ensuring that with this determination, the historical tradition of the PRI anti-reelectionist.
They assured that “Moreno He must resign from the leadership today, since his re-election was annulled after it was recognized that the exercise of the National Assembly was illegal.”

The still national president of the Institutional Revolutionary Party, Alejandro Moreno, reported that he will appear before the Court Electoral of the Judicial Branch of the Federation (TEPJF) by the resolution of the INE in which he declares himself unable to analyze the reforms to the tricolor statutes by which he was re-elected.
He explained that it is the Tribunal the body empowered to decide whether he/she remains in office or whether his/her re-election is annulled.
He also insisted that there are criteria of the Court which legitimize their internal decisions: “I am aware of the INE resolution on the modifications legitimately approved by our National Assembly. Although we respect the decision, we do not agree with it.”
