(ANSA) – BARI, 16 SEPTEMBER – “Today’s demonstration must represent the discomfort of healthcare professionals who are the lightning rod for a population malaise that is motivated by the structural, personnel and resource shortage. The citizens are paying the price”. This is what Alessandro Vergallo, national president of the Italian Association of Hospital Anaesthetists and Resuscitators, Critical Area Emergency (Aaroi Emac), said while speaking at the demonstration organized this morning in Foggia following the numerous episodes of violence against healthcare personnel at the Riuniti hospital. “We are here – he continues – to testify to the indispensability of rebuilding the relationship of trust between healthcare and citizens that has been lost over the decades”.
For Fabrizio Corsi, corporate secretary Anaao Assomed, “the problem is national. The numbers are clear. Many assaults occur throughout the country”. “We need to invest in public health – concludes Corsi – if we cannot keep in the system the doctors who today are looking for other more profitable and safer paths, it will be difficult to reverse this trend”.
