/ A German newspaper reported on Friday that Barcelona is facing the risk of being excluded from the UEFA Champions League, based on what was stated by sources that the newspaper did not disclose.
The report, published by German newspaper Welt am Sonntag, claims that the Spanish league champions are accused of violating UEFA’s financial regulations.
According to the report, Barcelona has been making incorrect calculations for three years, and neither UEFA nor the club have commented on the matter.
The club’s expenses must be offset by revenues directly related to football business.
Barcelona announced profits of 304 million euros ($335 million) last September, although the report confirmed that the profits include marketing matters and television broadcasting rights in addition to other sports at Barcelona.
However, according to UEFA regulations, it is not permitted to evaluate the general budget for a period of three years.
The newspaper said, quoting sources within UEFA, that Barcelona could be excluded from the Champions League for three years, starting from the 2024-2025 season.
The newspaper quoted an unnamed source as saying: The greater the losses, the greater the penalties.
Barcelona, which has been in a financial crisis in recent years, is moving forward with the development of the Camp Nou stadium and has also entered into a dispute with the European Football Association over its support for the Super League.
