An integral part of the 8th edition of the National Crafts Week which is placed under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, this exhibition, open until June 6, presents a selection of works by 20 distinguished creators, as well as unique pieces from the permanent collection of the FNM.

Crafts as diverse as zellige, caftan, carpets, leather goods, Tetouan zellige, leather painting, weaving, wood, saddles, and musical instruments and many others are exhibited there, which testify to the balance between the preservation of traditions and innovation.

This exhibition “illustrates our commitment to promoting crafts locally and internationally,” stressed the Minister of Tourism, Crafts and Social and Solidarity Economy, Fatim-Zahra Ammor, who presided over the opening ceremony of the exhibition.

And to support: “The National Museum of Fine Jewelry, a cultural hotspot, is the ideal place to highlight artistic craftsmanship, which is booming today.”

Ms. Ammor also welcomed the partnership with the Maison de l’Artisan and the FNM, which makes it possible to celebrate the richness of the Kingdom’s artisanal heritage and pay tribute to Moroccan artisans.

The minister also welcomed the excellent performance of the sector which generated foreign exchange revenues of 11 billion dirhams (MMDH) by the end of 2023, between exports and sales to tourists.

For his part, the president of the FNM, Mehdi Qotbi, highlighted the importance of this event which contributes to “the preservation of memory” for future generations.

In this sense, he indicated that this exhibition will allow these generations to perpetuate this heritage by creating masterpieces as dazzling as the caftans with exceptional colors or the “Zellige” which enchants the world.

For his part, the general director of the Maison de l’Artisan, Tarik Sadik, noted that this exhibition “testifies to our common desire to promote Moroccan craftsmanship and to highlight its exceptional richness and diversity.”

“The exhibition brings together more than twenty master craftsmen and designers, in a dialogue between old pieces sometimes dating from the 19th century, or even beyond, and contemporary creations,” he said, adding that this juxtaposition highlights the adaptability and deep roots of Moroccan craftsmanship in culture and history.

Beyond the exhibition, guided tours for schoolchildren, interactive workshops with artisans and thematic conferences are on the program, offering visitors an immersion in the rich and captivating world of craftsmanship, while deepening their understanding of artisanal techniques and their role in the preservation of Moroccan culture.

Coming to an end, the 8th edition of the National Crafts Week, initiated under the theme “Crafts, a lever for development in the service of the influence and protection of tangible and intangible heritage”, offered Moroccan craftsmen the opportunity to meet professional buyers, architects, designers and representatives of major international brands and distribution centers through various events and activities.
