Minister of National Defense Holds Video Call to Encourage Overseas Troops for Chuseok
Minister of National Defense Kim Yong-hyun held a video call with overseas troops on the 17th to encourage them during Chuseok.
Minister Kim praised the soldiers of the Cheonghae, Ark, Dongmyeong, and Hanbit units for their hard work, saying, “I am proud of the soldiers who are raising the status of our military in a foreign land far from their families.”
Minister Kim first said in a video call with Commander of the Cheonghae Unit Choi Jong-soo (Navy Colonel) that he was “proud of the Cheonghae Unit members who are displaying the Republic of Korea’s prestige on the international maritime security stage,” and urged them to “continue the Cheonghae Unit’s shining tradition of victory in the Gulf of Aden even in difficult circumstances.”
He then praised the recent success of the joint high-altitude parachute training with the UAE military to Commander Park Chang-jin of the Ark Unit (Army Colonel), and encouraged him by saying, “The successful deployment of the Ark Unit is greatly contributing to strengthening the foundation of defense cooperation between the two countries.”
To Lieutenant Colonel Yoo Jun-geun of the Dongmyeong Unit (Army), he said, “I congratulate the soldiers who are successfully completing their missions even in the midst of urgent circumstances such as the armed conflict between Israel and Hezbollah,” and added, “I hope that you will continue the tradition of the unit that has been praised as a gift from God and elevate the status of the ROK Armed Forces.”
Minister Kim concluded his phone conversation with Colonel Kwon Byung-guk, commander of the Hanbit Unit (Army), saying, “I would like to commend the hard work of the soldiers who are receiving praise from the local people for their dedicated reconstruction support and humanitarian activities,” and emphasized, “Your sweat and passion will be a ray of hope for South Sudan.”
Minister Kim added to the soldiers of the dispatched unit, “I hope that you will complete your mission safely and healthily until the day you return home with pride as representatives of the Republic of Korea and military diplomats.”
