A fire broke out today in a refinery of the company “Motor Oil” (“Motor Oil”) in Corinth, southwest of Athens, reports the electronic publication of the village “Kathimerini”.
Firefighting forces have been sent to the scene and their numbers are increasing.
Currently, 47 firefighters with 17 vehicles and three helicopters have been mobilized. The refinery’s firefighting crews are also involved in extinguishing the fire.
There is a message that there was an explosion before the fire, the publication states. A section of road is closed in the area of the refinery, and train traffic is disrupted.
Reuters specifies that this is the second largest refinery in Greece. The fire forced the evacuation of employees.
Local media showed footage of high flames and black smoke rising from the Greek company Motor Oil’s refinery, which is located about 70 kilometers southwest of Athens.
The company told Reuters the refinery had been evacuated.
So far, there are no reports of casualties. Residents of the area have received an evacuation notice, writes BTA
