Interim government chief advisor Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus sought the help of the United States to rebuild the country, implement important reform programs and bring back the money laundered.

On Sunday (September 15), the Chief Adviser asked for this assistance in a meeting with the visiting high-level US delegation at the State Guest House Jamuna in Dhaka.

In the meeting, the Chief Adviser mentioned, ‘The present time is very important for us and a significant moment in our history.’ He said about the student-led revolution, this revolution has ushered in a new era of hope in Bangladesh.

The Chief Adviser outlined the reforms undertaken by the interim government to the US delegation and said that within a few weeks of assuming office, his government has formed six commissions to reform the Election Commission and amend the judiciary, police, public administration, anti-corruption commission and the constitution to prevent vote rigging.

He mentioned that the government is committed to bring back the money embezzled and laundered by corrupt people close to the autocratic government.

The interim government has to deal with major challenges such as corruption. Yunus said, ‘We were immersed in a deep sea of ​​corruption.’

The US delegation led by Brent Neiman, assistant undersecretary for international financial affairs of the US Department of Revenue and Finance. Appreciates the leadership of Yunus. The members of the US delegation mentioned that Washington would be happy to help implement the reform program of the interim government of Bangladesh.

US officials said at the meeting, Dr. They are keen to provide technical and financial support to the reform program being implemented by the Yunus government.

The hour-long meeting discussed financial sector reforms, investment, labor situation, Rohingya crisis and the Chief Adviser’s upcoming visit to New York to attend the UN General Session.

The US delegation, led by Brent Neiman, also included US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Donald Lu; US Assistant Trade Representative Brendan Lynch and US Treasury Department Director Jared Mason.
