In a press release, RADEEJ stressed that this project is part of the National Liquid Sanitation Program and the reuse of treated water, for the benefit of the populations of Azemmour, Sidi Ali Ben Hamdouch, El Haouzia and surrounding areas.

This station will treat approximately 7,500 m3 of wastewater per day using the activated sludge technique, which involves several stages, including physical treatment (screening) which retains solid waste, followed by sand and oil removal.

This also involves secondary treatment through biological basins equipped with an aeration system to activate bacteria in the wastewater and degrade the pollution before transforming it into sludge. Then comes the treatment stage via settling basins where part of the sludge is recirculated to increase treatment efficiency.

As for the rest of the sludge, it is treated in several stages, namely thickening, dehydration and then drying using the sun’s rays before being transported to the public landfill.

Regarding the treated water, it will be discharged into a tertiary treatment stage which includes microfiltration followed by disinfection via ultraviolet rays for its reuse in watering golf courses and green spaces in the city of Azemmour, the Mazagan urban center (PUM) and El Haouzia.

The Azemmour wastewater treatment plant will also work to treat emissions from the pre-treatment and sludge treatment units, as well as the solar drying line for their deodorization.
