The romantic TV series Emily in Paris will see a fifth season, in which the heroine will spend part of her time in Rome instead of the French capital. It was announced by the video library Netflix. The competing platform Apple TV+, on the other hand, is canceling the series Time Thieves by Oscar-winning director Taika Waititi after the first row.

As the DPA agency writes, the heroine of the romantic series Emily in Paris, played by the British actress Lily Collins, went on vacation to Rome at the end of the fourth season to meet her potential new lover, the heir to a clothing company, Marcello. He was portrayed by Eugenio Franceschini. “Forget pancakes, let’s have pizza,” he enticed her. Immediately, the protagonist was entrusted by her superior Sylvie with the management of the new branch of the advertising agency in the Italian capital.

At least part of the sequel will take place there. Netflix announced it on Instagram with a short video in which Lily Collins drinks espresso with the words “Good everywhere, best in Rome”.

“Emily will be in Rome. That doesn’t mean she won’t be in Paris, but she’ll be in Rome,” explains series creator Darren Star. Among other things, he initiated the change of scenery in order to “stay one step ahead of the audience” and to prove that the project, which started during the coronavirus pandemic in 2020 and reached its highest viewership two years later, has not yet exhausted all its potential. “We’re just going to spend some time in Rome. But Emily didn’t change the name of her Instagram account to Emily in Rome,” adds Star in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter magazine.

Already at the end of the fourth season, the marketer Emily managed to visit several tourist attractions here, for example the Colosseum, the Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps or the Janiculus Hill. Netflix released the fourth season in two parts, with the final episodes premiering late last week.

On the other hand, the fantasy adventure series Time Thieves, which was created by the New Zealand director Taika Waititi, winner of the Oscar for the script for the film Jojo Rabbit, will not be continued. The Apple TV+ video library announced on Tuesday that it is canceling the series about a group of thieves who travel through time and steal with an eleven-year-old boy, Variety.com wrote. The series was based on the 1981 film of the same name directed by Terry Gilliam.

According to Deadline.com, the decision is not surprising. Although the novelty enjoyed a relatively benign reception, it has an average score of 78 percent from critics on the Rottentomatoes.com platform, but it failed to reach a sufficiently wide audience and did not break into the top ten most watched shows on streaming platforms. They now evaluate more quickly what makes sense to invest in, especially in the case of large-budget projects.
