Meritorious Artist Quang Thang Full name is Dang Quang Thang, born in 1968 in a family with an artistic tradition. His maternal family has 14 members in the arts. He studied at Hai Phong College of Culture and Arts and in 1999 went to Hanoi to study directing at the Hanoi University of Theatre and Cinema.
Before he became successful, Quang Thang had to do many jobs to make ends meet, such as running a market, selling goods, delivering clothes, and pushing sand on an ox cart. He had to go to Saigon to get clothes, deliver them to Hai Phong, then go to Hanoi and then return to Saigon. At that time, no one knew he was an artist, they just thought he was a clothes delivery man.
Meritorious Artist Quang Thang plays the role of Economic God in “Tao Quan”, leaving a strong impression on the audience.
Since 1990, Quang Thang joined the Hai Phong Drama Troupe and was assigned to play the main role. By 1994, he began to become famous from North to South, performing in all schools. He became famous for his role as addict Thang in a TV series and was loved by many people.
In addition to television dramas, Meritorious Artist Quang Thang also made an impression in the comedy and film industry. The role of Tao Kinh Te in the program Meet at the end of the year – Tao Quan is one of the most prominent roles in his career. He also participated in projects loved by the audience such as: Sweet Lies, Love then Hate, Who Comes to Visit the House on Tet This Time, Ao Lua Ha Dong, Blind Knight… Recently, he participated in the film The Last Wife by director Victor Vu.

Continue to contribute to the title of People’s Artist
Although he became famous in the 1990s along with his colleagues who played Tao Quan such as Quoc Khanh, Xuan Bac, Tu Long, and Cong Ly in the Tao Quan program, Quang Thang was only awarded the title of Meritorious Artist, while his colleagues were awarded the title of People’s Artist.
Quang Thang said that although he met the criteria to apply for the title of People’s Artist, from medals to years of service… he felt he was not yet “mature” enough, so the comedian proactively withdrew his application.
He shared that he has only been at the Hanoi Drama Theater for about 6-7 years so he has not contributed much. “Meanwhile, there are many people in the Theater who deserve to be awarded the title but have not yet received it, so I will take my time. Compared to the seniors, I am considered young. If I can still contribute, then waiting another 3-4 years is fine,” Quang Thang confided.

The Economic Tao said that when he was working in Hai Phong before returning to the Hanoi Drama Theater, he was invited to participate in the Year-end Gala of Vietnam Television. At that time, Xuan Bac played the main role, Quang Thang played a supporting role, and there were also Tu Long and Van Dung. The role caused him to be sued because it was said to be similar to someone else’s script.
“I think people probably thought I was asking for the People’s Artist title, so they sued me to stop the application. Honestly, I just find this funny. But many artists, especially older artists, also hope to have this title, as a recognition of their contributions. Just because of something like this, they can’t get it, I think they are also very bitter,” the male artist confided.
The male comedian is striving to be considered for the title of People’s Artist in the next few years.
Away from wife, take care of everything by himself
Quang Thang married his wife Cao Thanh Hao, 11 years younger than him, in 2002. The couple has 3 children: 2 girls and 1 boy. His wife used to work at Hai Phong Library, but after giving birth to their youngest son, she decided to stay home to take care of the family.
Quang Thang’s wife and children live in Hai Phong, and he bought a 30m2 house in Hanoi for work convenience. Initially, he brought his wife and children to Hanoi, but due to high costs, he had to bring them back to Hai Phong.

Living far away from his family, Quang Thang often felt sad and lonely. Although he was busy with work, he still often traveled back and forth between Hanoi and Hai Phong. Before, when he didn’t have his own car, he often went to the bus station, even when the trip ended, he went to the national highway to catch a container truck to go home.
Currently, living alone in Hanoi, he has to take care of everything himself. Despite being a famous comedian, Quang Thang travels to work and the film set by motorbike, often returning home late at night. He sometimes feels sad because he is far away from his wife and children, but for the sake of his family, he tries his best.
Despite living far apart, Quang Thang and his wife are still in love after more than 20 years. His wife understands and feels secure when he works far away, and he always gives all his money to his wife to keep and never forgets to send gifts on holidays despite being busy.
The male artist is satisfied with his current life.
Although he is 56 years old, Quang Thang is still energetic in his career. He said he will continue to perform until his health does not allow it. For him, the most important thing is to maintain the love of the audience.
