TERM. In Termeno, in Piazza Mindelheim, the prototype of an innovative E-Paper-Display which shows real-time data on bus connections.

With this pilot project, the Province’s Mobility Department is using E-Paper technology, already known for e-books. These electronic paper displays show bus connection data in real time in German and Italian. In addition to the one in Termeno, twelve more displays will be installed in Merano. “The E-Paper-System is an innovative step towards greater sustainability and accessibility of public transport”, explains the provincial councillor for mobility Daniel Alfreider. “It should enable everyone to find out about upcoming public transport connections easily and efficiently.”

In addition to the low energy consumption (the battery lasts three to five years), the displays also offer a acoustic reading sensor which allows visually impaired people to receive information acoustically. The E-Paper Displays update automatically and show the timetables of the five arriving buses in real time.

The pilot project is financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through an Interreg programme.
