New Country Director of Asian Development Bank (ADB) has been appointed in Bangladesh. Hoe Yun Jeong has been appointed as the new Country Director in Bangladesh.
This information was informed in a press release sent from ADB’s Dhaka office on Tuesday (September 17).
According to ADB, Hoe Yun Jeong will lead ADB’s operations in Bangladesh and conduct policy dialogue with the interim government, development partners and other stakeholders. He will begin preparations for ADB’s upcoming Country Partnership Strategy (CPS) for Bangladesh.
“I will work to restore economic and financial stability and make progress on the country’s long-term development goals,” said Hoe Yun Jeong, the new country director. I also look forward to working closely with the interim government and the people of Bangladesh to implement broad-based reforms that are critical to economic diversification and a sustainable growth trajectory. I will have my full support to work closely with the Interim Government of Bangladesh, development partners and the people of Bangladesh to promote a sustainable growth process.
Hoe Yun Jeong has 25 years of professional experience. Including about 15 years in ADB. Prior to joining the Bank, he held senior positions in the Ministry of Strategy and Finance of the Republic of Korea. He joined ADB in 2009 as an Economist and worked extensively on regional cooperation and operations. In 2018, he moved to ADB’s India Resident Mission where he held various roles including Deputy Country Director.
Hoe Yun Jeong played a key role in enhancing relationships with development partners, improving processes to facilitate clients’ efforts to reduce financing costs, and coordinating ADB’s support for India’s G20 presidency. Hoe Yoon Jeong holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Washington, USA and a Bachelor of Economics from Seoul National University, Republic of Korea.
Bangladesh became a member of ADB in 1973. ADB has given Bangladesh about 61 billion in loans and grants including co-financing. ADB’s priority areas for assistance in Bangladesh include energy, transport, urban infrastructure, water supply and sanitation, education, agriculture and natural resources. As of September 2024, ADB’s Bangladesh portfolio includes 53 projects worth approximately $13 billion.
