US will continue development cooperation: Secretary of State

It’s been a little over a month since the interim government was formed. The US delegation was apprised of the overall situation in this situation. A fruitful discussion was held on how the US can cooperate in the changed situation.

After the meeting with the US delegation at Rashtriya Guest House Padma on Sunday (September 15), Foreign Secretary Md. Jasim Uddin said this to reporters.

He said, the new Bangladesh that we have got as a result of the sacrifice of the students, the continuations after that have been highlighted in today’s meeting. The issue of restructuring of the financial sector has been presented on our behalf. The delegation assured their government of restructuring the financial sector.

The secretary said that in today’s meeting various issues including bilateral relations, labor environment, Rohingya community solution were discussed. Besides, they have been informed about River Law, they have taken notes. There was a general discussion on DFC.

The Foreign Secretary said that a development cooperation agreement was signed with Bangladesh in the meeting.

The secretary also said that there was a preliminary discussion in the meeting about bringing back the smuggled money. He said, today there was a preliminary discussion on this issue, both sides will work on this issue.

The secretary said that the US delegation will have a meeting with the governor at Bangladesh Bank this afternoon. I hope that this issue can be discussed in that meeting as well.

The secretary said the United States wants to work with the interim government. There was a preliminary discussion today about what kind of process can be done in this regard.
