On the morning of July 18, a man was murdered in the fourth stage of El Recreo, in Durán, one day after the canton was intervened by the Government. The crime occurred in a parking lot in the area and the body was left lying on the road after receiving several bullet impacts.
According to a report by RTS, the attackers arrived in a vehicle, entered through the metal gates of the building and shot him.
This murder occurred in the midst of the intervention of approximately 1,100 police and military personnel deployed in Durán since July 17. That day, 80 raids were carried out and seven arrests were reported. President Daniel Noboa, who had promised a strong intervention in the canton since July 11, was present during these actions.
During the intervention, Noboa entered the La Delia sector, in the southeast of Durán, accompanied by military tanks. In his speech, the president assured that “the time of the Glas and Muentes is over,” promising that the military and police action would not be limited to a single day, but would continue until the mafias left the canton.
Despite the operations, Noboa fulfilled his agenda in Los Ríos on July 18. This event highlights the complex situation in Durán, where organized crime imposes its own rules and exercises parallel power, challenging the government’s efforts to restore order and security in the area.
