British-Chinese Lotus has unveiled the new Theory 1 concept. It’s an electric sports car of the future, but it’s unlikely to make it to production.
In the past, the British Lotus was mainly famous for light sports cars, but in the hands of the Chinese Geely it is now resolutely embarking on the purely electric wave. After the SUV and sedan, the brand unveiled a prototype for a modern electric sports car, which is officially called the Lotus Theory 1 and is the spiritual successor of the internal combustion model Emira.
Lotus says the new design is inspired by the legendary Esprit sports car and shows the brand’s future. Of great interest are the doors opening backwards and upwards.
The Lotus Theory 1 is made of carbon fiber and weighs under 1,600 kilograms. The large and heavy high-voltage battery with a capacity of 70 kWh stores energy for the 1,000 horsepower electric four-wheel drive. The automaker says that thanks to this, the car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 2.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of 321 km/h. The maximum range is up to 400 kilometers on a single charge.
