WD My Book Live Hard Drives Deleting Data Due to Vulnerability

by time news

WD My Book Live and WD My Book Live Duo external drives have been exposed to a vulnerability that could compromise user privacy. Western Digital recommends that you immediately disconnect your hard drives from the Internet and wait for the problem to be resolved.

The vulnerability allowing remote access to the hard drive was discovered back in 2018. It can be used by knowing the IP address of the owner. Then the device will be reset to factory settings, which will destroy all data on the disk. WD My Book Live and WD My Book Live Duo hard drives were last updated in 2015, so new vulnerabilities have not been patched.
