Sean “Diddy” Combs is expected to appear in court in New York after federal charges were brought against him, the world’s agencies report.
The music mogul was arrested late Monday in Manhattan after sexual assault complaints were filed. This happened roughly six months after federal authorities conducting an investigation into human trafficking for the purpose of sexual exploitation searched his luxury homes in Los Angeles and Miami, BTA reported.
Following the declassification of the indictment, it appears that Sean “Diddy” Combs is set to stand trial on federal charges of human trafficking for sexual exploitation and racketeering. He is accused of hitting and abusing women for more than a decade and running a sex crime empire.
According to the indictment, the music mogul “engaged in a persistent and pervasive pattern of violence against women and others.” In the indictment, which details allegations dating back to 2009, Sean “Diddy” Combs is accused of abusing, threatening and coercing women for years “to fulfill his sexual desires, to protect his reputation and to cover up his behavior”.
Lawsuits have been filed against Combs in the past year by individuals who claim he subjected them to physical or sexual abuse. He denies many of the allegations, and his lawyer, Mark Agnifilo, called the new charge “unfair persecution.”
In his words, New York-born Diddy “is cooperating with the investigation and looks forward to clearing his name in court.” The attorney also said Combs will plead not guilty to the charges against him.
Combs, 54, was recognized as one of hip-hop’s most influential figures before a spate of allegations that surfaced over the past year reduced him to an “industry pariah.”
Under the monikers Puff Daddy, Pee Diddy, Diddy, and many more, Sean Combs has established himself as an important figure in East Coast hip-hop.
In 1993, Combs founded Bad Boy Records, a prelude to his rise to the top. The company’s performers include the late Notorious B.I.G. and Mary J. Blige. His album No Way Out won a Grammy for Best Rap Recording in 1997. Over the decades, Sean Combs has amassed a huge fortune, in part due to his activities in the liquor industry.
Despite his efforts to cultivate an image as a business tycoon, however, a series of complaints described him as a rapist who used his influence to “prey” on women.
