The Prime Minister indicated that Dombrovskis will be entrusted with issues related to the reduction of bureaucracy, which, according to her, is very important and which means that Dombrovskis has been seen in Europe, and he will be able to continue working there with his professionalism.
The Prime Minister also noted that countries such as Italy and France have managed these portfolios in the European Union so far. “This is also a portfolio where the budgets and macroeconomic indicators of the European Union member states are monitored – it is a portfolio with quite a large influence within the European Union,” said Silina.
As reported, the President of the EC, Urzula von der Leyen, presented the new composition of the EC for the next five years on Tuesday, and the new EC is expected to start its work on November 1.
Latvia’s representative Valdis Dombrovskis will have a dual role in the EC. He will be the Commissioner for Economy and Productivity, as well as being entrusted with the duties of Commissioner for Implementation and Simplification. He will report directly to Leyena for this part of the job.
