Actor Kim Woo-bin (35) confessed that he was given a terminal diagnosis while battling nasopharyngeal cancer.

On the 16th, Kim Woo-bin appeared as a guest on the YouTube channel ‘Salty Brother Shin Dong-yup’ with actor Kim Sung-kyun, with whom he worked together on the Netflix film ‘Infinite Challenge’. Kim Woo-bin was previously diagnosed with nasopharyngeal cancer in 2017 and was declared cured in 2019 after a battle with the disease.

On that day’s broadcast, when asked by host Shin Dong-yup, “How did you endure the difficult fight against illness?”, Kim Woo-bin answered, “I’m originally a bit positive. I’m the type of person who finds the good in any situation.”

He said, “It was like in a drama, when the hospital said, ‘It’ll be six months at the shortest,’ so I was so surprised and scared and wished it was a dream. But I never once thought, ‘What if I can’t overcome this?'”

He said, “Of course, I didn’t think about it right away, but I treated it and pulled myself together with the thought, ‘This is an opportunity. ‘” He continued, “I’ve been busy for over 10 years since my debut, so I thought, ‘Maybe heaven gave me this time to look back on myself and spend time with my family. ‘”

Kim Woo-bin said, “I met people I love and stuff. It’s the same for me because my body is in pain due to treatment,” and confessed, “Many people cheered me on and prayed for me simply because my face was known. I believe that power is real.”

He continued, “Even at the hospital, the progress was surprisingly good. I could see that I was getting better,” and added, “I think it was thanks to that support and prayers that I was able to get healthy so quickly.”

Lastly, Kim Woo-bin said, “It’s like a homework assignment for me to keep the feelings I received and convey them well,” and added, “That’s why I try to express them more. Expressing them to my parents in particular takes courage.”

Kim Woo-bin was diagnosed with nasopharyngeal cancer in May 2017 and focused on treatment. He returned to the film industry in July 2022 with the first part of director Choi Dong-hoon’s ‘Alien + Human’. He performed action scenes as a martial arts master in ‘The Infinite Challenge’, which was released on Netflix on the 13th.

Nasopharyngeal cancer refers to a malignant tumor that occurs in the uppermost part of the pharynx, from the base of the brain to the soft palate. Nasopharyngeal cancer is a rare cancer that occurs in about 1 out of 100,000 people worldwide.

Symptoms include a palpable lump in the neck, which is often diagnosed as metastatic nasopharyngeal cancer after examination. Bloody nasal discharge, a feeling of fullness in one ear (ear) due to serous otitis media (with thin, clear fluid), hearing loss, and nasal congestion on one side are also known to be common symptoms.
